DUSK Semi-Dark (Ableton Live 9 Skin)

Hello,

My name is Jeff Kleinman p/k/a BLACK MONDAY. I'm an electronic musician.

If you've found yourself here you're most likely one, too.

While we may play traditional instruments, the computer is a special one, as it will see many (possibly thousands of) hours of use in our careers.

My DAW of choice is Ableton. While the stock skin is beautifully simplistic and functional, I wanted a GUI that was:

Ergonomic – Dark (but not pitch black) and could be used for many hours

Functional – Extremely clear at all times with strong contrast (where applicable)

Professional – Clean and not calling attention to itself

I set out to find a skin that could satisfy the criteria.

It wasn't difficult to find a skin that met some of the conditions. Involved use, however, would reveal underlying weaknesses.

Commonly, the skins wouldn’t easily readable – aesthetics sacrificed the usability of the software. Other times, the skin would be too ‘loud’ and would have a cluttered, unprofessional appearance.

My dissatisfaction led me to take matters in to my own hands.

After many hours of experimentation, I created a skin that I felt met the criteria.

Soon thereafter, my newest pleasure while making music was admiring the look of Ableton with a clean, uncluttered dark GUI.

Now, I’m here to share it with my fellow creators....
